Cisco Reseller Busted
The VAR Guy loves a good crime drama, especially when it involves technology. Have you heard the one about the Cisco reseller who turned to the dark side? The Bad Guy (no relation to The VAR Guy) allegedly used false identities in 39 states to order networking gear from Cisco since 2003.
More >Enterprise IP Phone Training for $1.80?
The VAR Guy has a confession: He barely knows how to use the IP phone sitting on his desk. Basic features like call forwarding and voice conferencing are complete mysteries to him. It sounds pathetic, but there are thousands of IP phone users just like him. Small business and enterprises often don’t have the time or money to offer IP phone training. And users like The VAR Guy are too lazy to seek out phone instructions on their own.

More >Watch Dell on Thursday…
The VAR Guy will be watching closely when Dell announces quarterly earnings on March 1. Just about everyone is expecting the company to deliver poor results. But here are the five questions The VAR Guy hopes Michael & Co. will answer during the earnings call:
- Services: Will Dell partner—say, with a company like OnForce—to connect Dell’s SMB customers with regional solutions providers?
- Servers & Software: Can we expect Dell to preload open source solutions such as MySQL on Dell servers, much in the way that the company already resells Oracle databases? Also, anything knew brewing with Microsoft with Dynamics?
- Networking: Is Dell staying the course or will the company OEM solutions from Linksys and Cisco?
- Intel vs. AMD: What’s the sales mix between the two processor platforms?
- Windows Vista: How’s it selling and what issues are customers having?
