While working from home today, The VAR Guy noticed a package at his front door. It was a generic brown shipping box, about the size of a brick. Hmmm. Had The VAR Guy’s new iPhone arrived a little early? Sort of.
The VAR Guy eagerly opened the generic box. Yes, indeed. The packaging inside said “iPhone.” Only, this wasn’t the $500 device Apple plans to ship in June. Instead, it was Cisco’s Wireless-G phone for Skype… And the box did, in fact, have “iPhone” written on it. Cisco owned the name before Apple moved in with its own device.
Full disclosure: Cisco during a conversation with The VAR Guy earlier this month agreed to send The VAR Guy the Linksys device. He intends to test it for a few months at home.
The device is charging right now and should be connected to The VAR Guy’s home network sometime tonight. Can you guess The VAR Guy’s Skype name?

The VAR Guy gives Cisco’s phone a thumbs up. Built-in skype: nice touch.
