“If we’re going to scale Cisco to $50 billion and beyond, we have to ensure we have capacity in place” for partner programs and related efforts, Goodwin said. The big challenge, Goodwin noted, is finding gaps in Cisco’s partner coverage to drive profitable opportunities forward.

Cisco’s biggest push appears to be the SMB sector. Goodwin reiterated that Cisco has a new SMB certification level, called Select, to help partners focus on that specific market. The goal is to have 5,000 partners at the end of Fiscal 2008 in that certification level.

To further bolster the SMB push, Cisco plans to work more collaboratively with the company’s Linksys subsidiary and distributors that can recruit, enable and activate Cisco technologies in SMB.
