Robert: So far Cisco hasn't expressed any interest in a deeper relationship with Avnet, though.

I can understand that as an exclusive Avaya business partner myself. I have had great luck with just being Avaya and could not help but remember the days of Avent and the relationships they had with education (Avenet sold this to Calence) and it was nothing but Cisco Cisco Cisco. Its actually refreshing to see them change gears..

Robert: Avnet would love to distribute Cisco or pursue some sort of unified communications relationship, but this seems to be a case of Cisco already having a full list of distribution partners in place, The VAR Guy hears.

Interesting that Avnet distributes Extreme and Avaya instead of Cisco. We all know that its easy to do it without them but why would you?

At Cisco, we segment our distribution partners into three distinct categories: Global, Regional and Specialist. We believe our distribution segmentation model provides a unique platform for discussions with distributors on how and where they wish to grow with Cisco. We current have three global distributors, Ingram Micro, Tech Data and Westcon. All three are investing to grow our mutual business and expand our geographic coverage. At this time we have no plans to expand our pool of global distribution partners. However, as we grow our Specialty segment distributors like Avnet are always under consideration and discussion.
