Ah, even when he’s 35,000 feet in the air, The VAR Guy can’t escape from Dell channel news. While using inflight WiFi service, our resident blogger spotted these two small but important pieces of Dell PartnerDirect channel news.
First comes word that The I.T. Pros – a solutions provider that recently landed on CRN’s Fast-Growth 100 list — has joined the PartnerDirect program as a Certified Partner in both Managed Services and Enterprise Architecture. Only 11 Dell partners are certified in both areas.
Also of note, Jeff Johnson from Dell Global Channel Marketing pinged The VAR Guy to see his reaction to this blog post: Four Questions for Channel Vendors.
Hmmm. Dell is showing some mighty confidence raising questions about rivals’ partner programs. And it’s good to see prominent companies like The I.T. Pros partnering up with Dell.
What’s Happening Down Under, Mate?
Still, all isn’t perfect in PartnerDirect land. During a trip down under, The VAR Guy heard lots of pushback from VARs who said they will never — ever — work with Dell.
Also of note: Two solid sources tell The VAR Guy that Dell’s PartneDirect program in Australia has suffered from a bit of staff turnover.
Our resident blogger isn’t pressing the panic button for Dell. But even as the company signs up some impressive partners, some lingering skeptics remain.

Dell is truly committed to the channel and is investing in partners, large and small, to help them bring profitable value added solutions to market in the areas of Enterprise Architecture, Managed Services, and the Federal space.
Partners willing to spend the time and effort to earn a certification in any or all of these solution areas will reap the benefit of a deep channel dedicated to providing a rich set of sales, marketing, and technical resources aimed at helping partners succeed.
The Dell Partner Channel Marketing team has helped us fill a deep funnel of opportunities by way of tradeshows, webinars, and e-mail marketing campaigns.
Dell’s Enterprise Architecture team has facilitated call down campaigns, lunch and learns, and customer demos to help us “shake the tress” and close opportunities in storage and virtualization.
Our local Dell Systems Engineers have provided technical training to our staff of engineers and technical sales resources on a variety of topics from systems to storage.
A little effort has gone a long way in our relationship with Dell. The decision to jump into the Dell Partner Channel with both feet has proven to have been the right decision for our rapidly growing company.
If you’d like to talk with me in person about our experience with Dell, feel free to visit our website and submit an inquiry. I’ll get back to you as quickly as I can.
Thanks for the props, VAR Guy. Keep up the great work.
