I guess Skype does have a native 64-bit installer for Ubuntu. I'm not sure how to find it through Skype's site--when I click the link to download Skype for Ubuntu, it automatically wants to give me the 32-bit .deb even on a 64-bit system--but I installed the 64-bit package that you link to, and it seems to work (at least, it installed; I haven't actually used the application yet).
