Greg Davis, Dell’s North American channel chief, is moving up to a global post, according to the folks at ChannelInsider. Hmmm. That should silence conspiracy theorists who think Dell’s surprise New Year’s Eve reorganization could put the company’s PartnerDirect channel program at risk.
Davis described PartnerDirect and Dell’s managed services efforts during a podcast with The VAR Guy’s sister site, MSPmentor, in August 2008.
And more recently, Dell’s Managed Services team tackled dozens of solutions provider questions about its partner strategy during the MSPmentor Live: CEO Exchange webcast. (Full disclosure: Dell sponsored the event.)
Where will Mr. Davis take Dell next in the channel? Perhaps here? Stay tuned.
Update Jan. 7: Davis is already blogging about the new global channel chief position.

Does Davis have any plans to host an annual Dell partner conference like the Cisco Partner Summit or Microsoft partner event? I know travel budgets are tight but it seems to me a Dell partner event would solidify Dell’s commitment to the channel.
The VAR Guy asked Davis and other Dell channel team members that question a few months ago. Sounds like Dell will continue with regional events for the near term while potentially considering a more formal, larger partner event in 2011. That’s an educated guess based on a number of interviews.
