Time for The VAR Guy to eat a little crow. In a post last week, our resident blogger told readers Microsoft was invading Digium AsteriskWorld, an open source IP PBX conference in Miami. There was only one problem with the blog entry: The VAR Guy was wrong. Here’s how he goofed.

In reality, Microsoft attended and spoke at ITExpo East, according to Microsoft Response Point Senior Business Development Manager Rex Backman.

ITExpo East is a super set of the AsteriskWorld conference. Apparently, our resident blogger was a little confused because Microsoft was listed on the AsteriskWorld keynote agenda — but the agenda actually was for the parent conference, ITExpo East.

So, The VAR Guy needs to eat some crow for getting the story wrong. Technically, Microsoft spoke at ITExpo East not Asterisk World. But his view of the bigger picture is still correct: Microsoft Response Point and Asterisk are on a collision course in the small business IP telephony market.
