Click on Envy, type in your password, and it’s done.

Drivers for supported WiFi, Soundcards, USB devices etc. are installed authomatically.

Forget a ‘weird “sudo” stuff’!

It would be waaaay more likely to use Ubuntu if it were easier to use. I can’t even install most drivers or software because you have to open a command line and type weird “sudo” stuff. I can’t figure it out. Why can’t you just double-click a installer, type in your password, and be done?

Effects on ATI work just fine. There are open source 3d drivers for ATI and Intel you know.

A couple of days after I tested, an update was released for the nvidia driver package that solved the problem. Nvidia graphics are good in jaunty now although sound got broken yesterday!

I used the bootchart package to compare an ext4 jaunty install with a clean ext3 intrepid install. There’s an interesting comparison of filesystems here, although these are mostly benchmarks:

I also had my system hang after login as well after I upgraded from Alpha 3 to Alpha 4 with nvidia drivers enabled. I just uninstalled and reinstalled them.

Ext4 is amazing if you can format a partition from scratch (you can convert old ext3 but will only see benefits on new files)

fsck on FULL 750gb drive ~10secs, empty drive ~2secs!!!

So fast I forget that my home dir is encrypted.

But wasn’t it demonstrated a couple weeks back that EXT4 doesn’t bring about much extra performance when it comes to small files?

It seems that ext4 will be helpful mainly for huge files as shown in this report too, especially because of extents & delayed block allocation :

So each person’s mileage will vary as per the file sizes normally handled. If its too many mp3s & pics, ext3. If its too many HD Video files, ext4

So make it easier to find.

The font size has been a problem for eternity. Any attempt at fixing this is welcome.

(Also, report your monitor’s default size as a bug.)
