http://weblog.infoworld.com/virtualization/archives/2008/08/former_platespi.html

Mark Pileski was most recently director of corporate marketing for Novell, which he joined with the acquisition of PlateSpin. He has spent more than 10 years helping to grow software companies.

    [...]

And now one month later, Novell loses another former key PlateSpin employee, Brett Johnson — the company’s Director of Sales for Eastern North America.

http://weblog.infoworld.com/virtualization/archives/2008/12/stephen_pollack.html

So why did Pollack leave Novell? Was it time? And what are his future plans? I was able to catch up with him briefly, and asked him these very questions.

    [...]

Pollack stayed on with Novell after the acquisition but has since left. Recently, his name surfaced again in the media and the blogosphere when he joined the Advisor Board of two startup virtualization companies: Embotics and Enomaly.

Roy: As usual you come armed with information. The VAR Guy will keep an eye on PlateSpin departures.

Fair enough, but the departures are rather big (Stephen Pollack for example). The executives left too.

Roy: When you and The VAR Guy move onto new careers, perhaps you both can co-host Cross Fire on CNN... ;-)

In Novell's defense (boy, TVG says that a lot lately...) all companies lose employees during the acquisition process.

It has been about 13 months since NOVL acquired PlateSpin. Has PlateSpin gained much traction since that time? Your skepticism may be on the mark. But let's both watch PlateSpin over the next 2 or 3 quarters, compare notes ... and continue the CrossFire...

To be blunt about it, PlateSpin made some headlines for Novell when it was acquired, but if you look closely, many of its chief people quit Novell (at least 3 I can think of) and the company's product does not appear to have even gained much traction.
