Roughly three months since officially launching a partner program, Opengear is showing signs of channel momentum. The open source company, which focuses on infrastructure management, has signed up 20 new partners since January and is pushing deeper into the government vertical. Here’s how.
Even before Opengear moved its resellers into a formal partner program, the company landed on The VAR Guy’s Open Source 50 report, which tracks the open source industry’s most promising partner programs.
Todd Rychecky, VP of sales for North America, says Opengear’s products have recently been added to the GSA contract through CTC Technologies out of Ann Arbor, Mich. “Many of our resellers and system integrators who have signed up are focused in the markets of Managed Hosting, Lab, HPC/Clustering, Cloud Computing, Telecom and Government,” says Rychecky. Those government deals include state and local government, and all four branches of the US military, he adds.
Looking ahead, Rychecky is trying to determine whether to promote Opengear’s partner program at a range of conferences, including potential messaging at UseNix, HostingCon, SIFMA, LISA, Supercomputing 2009 and Data Center World.
On the product front, OpenGear is launching a new KVM-over-IP solution in Q2 for the branch office. “We believe this will enhance our connectivity solutions for the MSP reseller market and data center/colocations customers,” says Rychecky.
Sounds promising. But don’t take The VAR Guy’s word for it. Our resident blogger doesn’t actually “test” IT solutions. So check in directly with Opengear to draw your own conclusions.
