ChannelWeb is <a href="http://www.crn.com/networking/217500245;jsessionid=RR4SXGPOVBSHWQSNDLPCKH0CJUNN2JVN?cid=ChannelWebBreakingNews" rel="nofollow">now speculating</a> about Response Point's future, too. Nothing much new in the report, other than a MSFT spokesperson denying that the entire Response Point team had been laid off.

Rex, where are you? The VAR Guy would love your thoughts on the situation...

Response Point is a solid product for those customers who need basic a basic telephone system.

While the system did not fly off the shelves by the thousands, Response Point is selling well in the small office space to those who just need a basic phone system. Considering we sell a dozen or so different VoIP phone systems, this should be taken as a vote of confidence in the product since this space is heavily contested.

In order to continue to ramp sales in it's current hardware form, Response Point will need SP 2.0 to be released. If it doesn't then it will not be able to realize the market penetration that it could/should achieve.

All in all, its been a fun product and team to work with. Hopefully everything can get sorted out and positive steps can be taken to move forward.

An update: The VAR Guy spoke with a Response Point partner who is in the know.

The partner, an MSP, said he believes Response Point was run as a start-up with Microsoft seed money, and now the money has run out.

He doesn't know for sure, but the MSP predicts Microsoft will reposition Response Point as a cloud VoIP service, if Response Point moves forward at all...

This particular MSP is hedging his own bets and now offering two alternative lines to Response Point.
