Herb Siegel, the former VP of channel marketing communications at Computer Associates International Inc., talks the talk. But today he couldn’t walk the walk — due to a freak accident at home.
The tragedy occurred this morning. No personal doctor on hand. No 911 call. Just a shoe sitting high on a closet shelf… waiting to assassinate Siegel’s summer of bicycle rides on Long Island.
According to one eye-witness account (Siegel himself…), the shoe:
- Fell off a high shelf…
- …accelerated downward…
- …and reached terminal velocity.
- Fortunately, Siegel’s right foot broke the shoe’s fall.
- Tragedy averted (for the shoe, but not for Siegel).
- The shoe’s fall actually fractured Siegel’s right foot.
But don’t weep for Siegel. Celebrate his courage to rise again… put on sandals… and still make his dinner appointment with The VAR Guy.
Alas, the rest of the evening’s discussions were off the record.

Herb – so sorry to here of your misfortune. Heal!
Herb – very brave of you to make it out with such a bad bruise
“Waiter, can I have a large glass of ice water… minus the glass and minus the water?”
OMG! I feel you pain! (Literally) My foot is still healing. I fell while walking in NYC after leaving a client appointment. Not fun!
Janice: You need to become an MSP; put your foot up and manage customer networks from the comfort of a recliner…
The VAR Guy hopes you feel better.
