why-i-want-my-cisco-telepresenceThe VAR Guy is showing his age with the headline. But it’s the first thing that came to mind as Cisco Systems Inc. launches a TelePresence marketing blitz that includes a contest called “Why I Want My TelePresence.” The Cisco TelePresence marketing push comes at a critical time. Here’s why.

No doubt, Cisco is gaining critical mass across social media. The company has more than 13,000 employees engaged on social networks. Now, take the Flip camera acquisition and Cisco is moving the social networking conversation to video.

But there’s one problem with Cisco’s video strategy. For some folks, Cisco TelePresence is considered “too expensive” for the masses. Meanwhile, upstarts like Lifesize Communications are gaining momentum with lower-cost high-definition video systems. In fact, multiple Cisco solutions providers have told The VAR guy that they’re in love with Lifesize.

Rather than sitting at the top of the market and waiting for deep-pocketed companies to open their wallets, Cisco is taking the TelePresence message to the masses. To get in on the “Why I want My TelePresence contest” check out this link.

One caveat: If you win be sure to pull The VAR Guy into the picture. He always shows up — black hat, black jacket, black tie — dressed for the occasion.
