CityTrader:
Do you contract with Canonical for any support services for your desktops and laptops? Are you a paying Landscape customer?

We use Ubuntu desktops and some laptops in our office and people get their work done and it's easy to maintain them. Canonical teaming up with IBM should send a shudder through Redmond. A central server that can spin off desktops on demand and pre-configures all the network user services and software stack. The cost differences will at least earn it a look.

If they can control file formats and storage options on desktop software, that would really simplify migration. And Ubuntu is going to run just fine on older hardware. The XP to Windows 7 migration pathway is painful and expensive, on top of that Windows 7 is not going to turn in optimal performance on older hardware. Lot of consultants are already talking about new hardware purchases for Windows 7. Business is not going to like that.
