Fear. Uncertainty. Doubt. The FUD is flying fast and furious around Microsoft Word today. Bloggers and IT sites are buzzing about a judge ordering Microsoft to stop selling Word. Oh my. Lawrence: The VAR Guy isn’t suggesting that Microsoft always plays fair. But in this case, our resident blogger is willing to bet the house (assuming he has one…) that Word will keep shipping.
You have to admit though. It’s pretty funny when a company like Microsoft, who some how managed to patent the page up and page down functions, gets caught out on something like this just after they were awarded their very own very very broad XML patent.
If anything this case really highlights the futility of software patents and the incompetence of those who award them.
