As the auto industry cash for clunkers program falls to pieces, IT vendors continue to introduce their own special financing and trade-in programs to stimulate technology sales. Call it Cash for IT or Cash for Technology Clunkers. And now, Cymphonix and NetSuite are joining the party. Here’s the scoop.
A few days ago The VAR Guy mentioned several Cash for IT Clunkers programs. Since that time our resident blogger has learned about the following efforts:
- Cymphonix this week announced a trade-up promotion to aid the migration to Cymphonix Network Composer for any company currently using solutions from Bluecoat, Marshal8e6, Packeteer and Websense. With this promotion, Cymphonix says it will give qualifying customers a free Network Composer appliance, valued at up to $28,000.
- All new NetSuite customers in the U.S. who shut down on-premise servers and/or trade in their on-premise enterprise software will receive $500 off of every $5,000 invested in NetSuite, above and beyond any negotiated terms. NetSuite is extending a similar offer to customers in in Canada, Australia and the U.K. The offer is valid for new customers signing up with NetSuite by October 31, 2009.
Sweet deals. Or are they? The VAR Guy is all ears…

These sound like Coupon book sales promotions! The ‘Green’ thing to do is to focus on ways to reuse the clunkers. Why not talk about the “Virtual Desktop” Technologies that allow clunkers to function ‘equivalent to new’ without ever having to buy a new machine (other than the servers)? Its a myth that machines are washed up after 2 to 3 years and you need to replace a third of your ‘fleet’ ever year.
Eric: Fair points. The VAR Guy blogged very recently about desktop virtualization. Hot trend, no doubt. Details here.
