If the "check engine" light went on every time the gas light went on 'just to be sure,' that'd be really annoying. This was kind of the case with Vista. It'd ask you if you were sure about doing things you previously had confidence in while running XP. It was over-kill. It's been tweaked so it pops up (like in OS X) only when system files or other sensitive OS data is being written to. I believe, overall, it's a step forward. Lawrence,
