ParaScale: Will Cloud Storage 2.0 Connect With VARs?

How can a storage cloud be open yet private? ParaScale thinks it has the answer. The company has launched version 2.0 of a Cloud Storage platform that can turn any Red Hat Linux or CentOS cluster into a private storage cloud. What’s the hook for channel partners and hosting providers? VISI, a managed hosting provider in Minnesota, offers some perspectives. Here’s a look.
We know: Cloud opportunities are receiving incredible hype. We also realize that most MSPs and VARs have yet to test big clouds like those from Amazon and RackSpace. Still, some channel partners are taking the plunge. One example involves VISI, which is using ParaScale’s Cloud Storage 2.0 platform to introduce cloud services to customers.
But what exactly is Cloud Storage 2.0? According to the ParaScale, the software-only solution:
“can be downloaded from the web and applied to any standard Linux platform to enable hundreds of commodity servers to be clustered together as a file repository, as a storage cloud with massive capacity and parallel throughput, or as a disaster recovery option for virtualized environments.”
ParaScale claims that ParaScale is so CPU-lite that users can run hosted Exchange or anything else on the same cluster.
If this sounds like it might be worth a try, there’s a free version of the software that maxes out at 4 terabytes of clustered storage. If you like it, they offer one-time and quarterly subscriptions, starting at $.20 per gigabyte of storage.

So what! Check out http://twistedstorage.com. Its been out since 2004-2005 doing the same thing in OPEN SOURCE. And if you add in support goes for a 1/4 the cost of the Parascale system ($500/TB).
