The VAR Guy is feeling a little run down this week. Lack of Latte will do that to you… If our resident blogger had more energy he would have written the following six blog entries for the week ending Dec. 4, 2009.

7. Press Your Luck: CA Inc. is getting ready to launch ARCserve 15 for VARs and MSPs in 2010. But the current ARCserve release is version 12. So what happened to 13 and 14? CA wanted to avoid “bad luck” connotations in North America (“13″) and Asia (“14″). Lucky 15, here we come?

6. Searching for Partners: Nagarro has joined Google’s Enterprise Partner Program. Google, as you may recall, also is thinking about launching an ISV partner program, The VAR Guy hears.

5. Opengear Meets Uncle Sam: Opengear has achieved FIPS compliance, which potentially positions Opengear VARs to sell into the government sector.

4. Symantec Gets Social: Glenn Hansen is the new Symantec Partner Community online manager.  The VAR Guy will be watching Hansen’s handiwork closely.

3. Tiny URLs, Big Security Partners: Sophos, VeriSign’s iDefense IP reputation service and Websense Threatseeker Cloud service are now safeguarding the bit.ly service.

2. Simplified Systems Management?: GroundWork Open Source and Novell have launched a $59 software appliance to help smaller organizations with their systems management efforts. Both companies landed on The VAR Guy’s Open Source 50 report, which tracks the world’s most promising open source partner programs. Now, the duo is striving to simplify systems management.

1. Check the Headline: If you know The VAR Guy, you know he doesn’t play by the rules. There is no #1 on this list, because it’s a top six list.

  1. Frankie Says Says:

More info about Groundwork please. With whom do they compete and do they really have a partner program?

  2. Glenn Hansen Says:

    Hello VAR Guy,

Thanks for mentioning the Symantec Social networking efforts. I am the new Community Manager for our Partner community on Symantec Connect. I encourage all Symantec Partners to visit the site and to ask questions, start discussions and share information. And I’m trying to stay on top of VAR Guy’s reporting, as well.

    Thanks, GRH

  3. The VAR Guy Says:

Glenn: No need to thank The VAR Guy for mentioning your social media efforts. Please keep our resident blogger posted as you continue to march forward.
