Agree that Google Voice is not really ready for business use. We trialed it for our our business and there were two main issues.

Transcription was almost useless to the point that we began emailing funny transcriptions around as a joke. :)

We also noticed some performance issues when call volume got higher. We actually used Voice in a larger forwarding scheme so the performance issues may have been due to Voice not liking to have calls forwarded in to it.

Finally, any article about Google Voice should mention Chad Smith's great Firefox plug-in for Google Voice. Click-to-Call from within Firefox is a really nice feature.

Google Voice's integration with Gmail is also a plus.

Sean: Thanks for pointing out new opportunities like RingCentral. The VAR Guy and his team will keep that in mind as we plan more coverage.

I agree that GVoice is extremely useful for personal usage. I also use the app on my Blackberry enabling click to dial from my contacts list. The benefit is that it shows my GVoice number as my caller ID, limiting access to my mobile number. For Google Voice to be viable for the SMB, though, it would need to offer automated attendant and call transfer at a minimum. VARs could offer complementary solutions (like RingCentral) for use with Google Voice accounts to help make it more useful.
