The VAR Guy is dragging a bit as the decade comes to a close. Our resident blogger needs to drop a few pounds and get energized for 2010. But before he starts a crash diet, here are six channel blog entries The VAR Guy didn’t write for the week ending Dec. 31, 2009.
7. Hello (Again): Autodesk, the 2D and 3D design software company, is reaching out to the channel media for potential briefings the week of Jan. 18. Assuming The VAR Guy is a real person, he plans to attend the briefings…
6. Dialing More Partners: Keep a close eye on Digium. The open source IP PBX company plans to make considerable noise at IT Expo East and AsteriskWorld (Jan. 20-22, Miami). Pay particularly close attention to Digium’s AsteriskExchange strategy, which CTO Mark Spencer described in this video.
5. Sweet Move?: Salesforce.com and SAP veteran Chuck Coulson is now VP of business development at SugarCRM. You may recall that SugarCRM CEO Larry Augustin has some lofty revenue and SaaS partner goals for 2010. Will Coulson lend a hand?
4. Google’s Gadget: The Web’s abuzz about Google’s plans to sell an Android phone direct to customers. Google is expected to make some official statements on Jan. 5. The VAR Guy will be listening.
3. Satisfaction Guaranteed?: Microsoft has changed the way it measures customers’ satisfaction with partners. Heather Clancy has the scoop.
2. Red Hat’s Triple Play: You already know about Red Hat’s Linux and JBoss middleware strategy. But the real story for Red Hat in 2010 will be virtualization. The VAR Guy will be back the week of Jan. 4 to explain why.
1. Check the Headline: If you know The VAR Guy, you know he doesn’t play by the rules. There is no #1 on this list, because it’s a top six list.

Looking forward to lots of news next week as several major industry players (including a few mentioned above) look to shake off 2009 and set bold plans for 2010. I believe 2010 will bring great opportunity to channel partners as smart OEM vendors realize how quickly they can advance those bold plans with the capabilities of the many sophisticated, mature and hungry channel players in our industry.

Denny: Happy New Year. The VAR Guy appreciates your readership and looks forward to covering some new channel chatter when business resumes Jan. 4.
