hp ciscoThe VAR Guy’s sources were correct: In a bold act that escalates a technology war (how’s that for pumping up the drama…), Hewlett-Packard plans to host its Americas Partner Conference the same week as Cisco Partner Summit 2010. Here are the details.

According to an HP spokesman:

Yes, HP will be hosting its Americas Partner Conference on April 26 – 28 in Vegas. We will be sending out invitations soon.

Hmmm. HP’s choice of date and location certainly caught The VAR Guy’s attention. Check out the following schedule of events…

  • Cisco Partner Summit (April 26-29, San Francisco)
  • Juniper J-Partner Summit (April 26-28, Arizona), according to a company spokeswoman UPDATE, 2/3/2010: Juniper is shifting the J-Partner Summit to May 24-26
  • Interop (April 25-29, Las Vegas)
  • And now… HP Americas Partner Conference (April 26-28, Las Vegas) Also of note: HP is expected to complete the 3Com acquisition around that time.

Can The VAR Guy be in four places at one time? Can channel partners?

In recent months, HP and Cisco have pushed their channel partners to choose sides in the escalating war between the two companies. And during April 2010, just about everyone will truly need to choose sides. Oh, except for The VAR Guy. Our resident blogger has a knack for being everywhere — and nowhere — all at once…

  1. Frankie Says Says:

Hey Var Guy, I’m sorry to hear you confirmed this piece of news. I was hoping Hewlett-Packard wouldn’t do this since. We have a longstanding relationship with ProLiant servers (predating HP) and Cisco going all the way back to the Grand Junction Networks acquisition.

I will head to San Francisco and my business partner will go off to Vegas. We will express our frustration at both events. 350+ days in a year and these two companies had to choose the same dates??? Sad sign of the times.

  2. The VAR Guy Says:

Frankie: The VAR Guy feels your pain. Our anonymous blogger just received an invite to a 5th channel event that’s occurring that week…

  3. Carl Says:

Sorry if I’m smiling a bit too much as I look forward to the J-Partner Summit in Arizona. The HP/Cisco skirmish is comical. Juniper means business. I’ll be there.

  4. Remember Networld? Says:

I was more of a Networld fan than an Interop fan. Am I the only guy who remembers Networld+Interop coming together? I haven’t been to Interop since 2003 but the close proximity to HP’s event could let me kill two birds with one stone. IMHO HP-Interop will give Cisco a run for its money that week.

Unfortunately this is the same week as the Q2 HTG meetings in Dallas as well. It is unfortunate that all these meetings have to fall at the same time. We are planning a great week even though some of our vendor sponsors will be elsewhere. So you can add us to the list of last week of April events. Our two year schedule can be found at http://www.htgmembers.com/Newsletter/UpcomingEvents.htm Hopefully we won’t have conflicts every year.

Arlin: We’ll keep the HTG events on our radar. Thanks for the heads up

  7. Jeff Says:

I agree with Arlin, I will be saying “No” to Cisco and HP. Instead I will be working on my business with fellow HTG members. What a shame it has worked out this way – no winners here.

Update: Juniper just shifted its J-Partner Summit conference dates.

  10. The VAR Guy Says:

Kristin: The VAR Guy appreciates your note. You came to the right place. Publicly, HP hasn’t said much about the HP Americas Partner Conference. But privately, The VAR Guy is happy to share this link with you.
