Second verse, same as the first: cloud security continued to be a major theme at the second day of the RSA Conference in San Francisco. Here are the highlights…
… which included…
- In his keynote speech, RSA President Art Coviello reiterated that trust is the major challenge facing cloud services providers, and the industry needs to do more to address the problem.
- CA is expected to extend identity management to Salesforce.com’s Sales Cloud 2 application.
- Sourcefire, in partnership with Immunet, has announced a free, cloud-based version of the ClamAV antivirus. Interestingly, it mentions that it will “link together a user’s network of friends” to help uncover new threats. Social networking meets security?
- US cybersecurity czar Howard Schmidt unveiled parts of the federal government’s plan to defend the network, circa the end of the Bush era. Of note: it included discussion of the government’s role in monitoring critical private networks like the phone system or the electric grid.
- A talk on Microsoft security exploits was mysteriously dropped from the conference program with no explanation. Microsoft’s offering a “no comment” on what prompted the change.
As the cloud gains traction in the market, it’s no surprise that it’s on everyone’s mind. All the same, I wasn’t expecting it to be such a huge topic of conversation at the conference. Watch The VAR Guy for more as the event progresses.
