Back at the end of January we had our first little chat with Astaro and they gave us a heads-up on 3 new products they were working on in the unified threat management (UTM) market. Now that March has started, they’ve got some more official details on what’s coming out. If you’re even a little bit interested in networking, mail or web security, you many want to take a look…

If you need a refresher, Astaro’s first phase of business was giving their customers the ability to pay for what they need. Their UTM solutions have options for switching on and off network, mail or web security, to keep costs down and implementation simple. Phase two, according to Astaro, is the following product lineup. Astaro RED, Astaro Mail Archiving and Astaro Wireless Security. In addition, Astaro is working on version 8 of their Astaro Security Gateway. Of course, all these products can be added to whatever existing Astaro solution you’ve got.

Expansion seems to be the theme.

So what do these new fangled products do? Well, we spoke about them in detail back in January, but here’s the quick scoop, plus links to official video’s explaining the new products:

Astaro RED is trying to make it easier for companies to to connect their remote locations to their central UTM. One box. One connection. No messy port configurations or VPNs.

Astaro Mail Archiving’s goal is to go from zero to hosted service in 15 minutes. Unlimited storage, and access to archives quickly with an Outlook plug-in.

Astaro Wireless Security does what it says; creates secure and uninterrupted WiFi signal in an office locale. Plug and play access points that are 802.11n also allow for guest Internet access without tricky configuration. Plus, easy of use through the astaro security gateway web interface.

Last, but not least, is version 8 of Astaro Security Gateway. New in this version is  support for impending IPv6, a reverse proxy, web application firewall, admin change tracking and a new GUI. Plus, new features in version 8 are implemented suggestions from Astaro’s Feature Request Site. That little nugget of info should suggest that Astaro really cares about their community and customers, though we can’t directly comment.
