After delivering strong quarterly growth, hosting specialist The Planet has announced key efforts involving Intel and Apple’s iPhone, respectively. Here are the details, which blend hosted services with remote managed services.

Let’s start with Intel. The Planet, which works closely with the channel, continues to bet heavily on a Dell-Intel infrastructure. The latest example involves the Dell PowerEdge R710 with the Intel Xeon X5600 processor.

More than speeds and feeds, The Planet says the processor’s security features offer partners peace of mind: Intel Advanced Encryption Standard New Instructions (Intel AES-NI) and Intel Trusted Execution Technology (Intel TXT). That combo seeks to speed up encryption and decryption for more secure virtualized environments.

Meanwhile, The Planet has also launched an iPhone version of Orbit, their server monitoring app. BlackBerry and Android versions of Orbit are expected to follow later this year. No doubt, plenty of hosting and MSP-centric companies continue to push remote monitoring applications out to smart phones.

The Intel and iPhone moves arrive only a few weeks after The Planet announced strong quarterly growth. For its quarter ended Dec. 31, 2009, The Planet said EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) increased 30 percent. And CFO Kevin Klausmeyer said The Planet’s annual revenue was at record levels.

Still, it’s important to keep The Planet’s progress in perspective. As a privately held company, The Planet doesn’t disclose net income and other metrics that allow folks like us to take a closer look at the company’s overall financial progress.
