@slumbergod: At the end of the day Canonical exists to make a profit. That means it must go where the money is. I doubt anything Oracle does will be that detrimental to Ubuntu. Oracle bought Sun. They're not buying Ubuntu. Well as far as we know.

@Majes: Speculative blog entries often precede more informative entries on media blogs like this one. It's a pretty common practice used to keep people coming back. It makes the blog appear more active than it really is or at least gives readers a nod to what the authors are working on behind the scenes.

Substantial news of any kind does seem thin on the ground of late. Most of the big tech shows have come and gone. Microsoft aren't even spinning their vapour-ware much. So expect a lot of speculation from professional bloggers as they work on new articles and try to keep their blogs current.

Whenever I see Oracle mentioned beside Ubuntu or anything Linux I cringe. We've seen Oracle turn Solaris into a trial version. We've seen Oracle turn Java documentation into Oracle University pay courses. Please don't screw up Ubuntu too.

I know these big corporates pay for a lot of the development in Linux but it seems risky to me to let them get too much influence.

Simplicius @1: Sorry about the typos. I've corrected the sentence.

Majes@2: Constructive criticism such as yours will always be welcome on WorksWithU. Yes, the article is filled with speculation. But stay tuned. WorksWithU's editorial team has covered the corporate IT market since 1992. We offer short-term clues and hints before following up with deeper stories as they emerge...

Is there any real info in this article? Just some speculations not supported by any real source. Don't understand the article at all.
