Bill: Generally speaking, The VAR Guy believes in Red Hat's strategy. Red Hat is the rare open source company that has acquired/built/expanded multiple open source revenue streams.

Following success with Linux and JBoss, Virtualization seems like a next natural success for Red Hat -- assuming they execute on their strategy.

It seems that the Red Hat KVM based virtualization stuff has received some decent traction since they announced in the form of serious commitments. I read about NTT in Japan building their cloud on it, and just a few weeks back IBM announced that their cloud will be built on top of RHEV with KVM. Those are pretty serious conservative companies making decisions that are not VMWare, Citrix or Microsoft or Oracle, but Red Hat.

Most serious technologists have agreed that KVM has a very bright future with the close alignment with the Linux kernel, but I am most impressed with these big guys throwing their weight behind it.

Granted I am a Red Hat fan, but mainly because we have used it for 5+ years and have saved tons of money moving from UNIX and have created many new applications on it. It seems to me like Red Hat is now a serious player in virtualization, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next 12 months.
