Intronis, the online backup provider, continues to generate record monthly performance and will continue to grow its partner program. That’s the message from founder and CEO Sam Gutmann (pictured), amid a search for a new channel chief to replace outgoing VP Eric Webster.

During a phone call earlier today, Gutmann confirmed a report that Webster had left Intronis because of a new career opportunity at another company. Gutmann wished Webster well, and said Intronis is seeking a new channel chief to further grow the company’s partner program.

Officially, Webster had been VP of marketing and sales at Intronis, which included responsibility for the Intronis partner program. Looking forward, Gutmann said Intronis may have two people take over Webster’s responsibilities, due to the company’s continued growth.

Intronis is privately held, so it’s difficult to pin down the company’s exact financial status. But Gutmann made it clear that the Intronis partner program has delivered record results for the company in recent months. Throughout the conversation, Gutmann reiterated his commitment to the Intronis partner program, which includes a white label option that allows VARs and MSPs to re-brand Intronis online backup as their own.

Webster’s departure came at a tricky time. Webster had been scheduled to attend the Autotask Community Live conference this week; the Miami-based event attracted roughly 500 VARs and MSPs — and companies such as VaultLogix and Zenith Infotech‘s BDR team were on hand to pitch storage management to attendees.

  1. Mark Newton Says:

Interesting. I just noticed that my sales person at Intronis has also left per his LinkedIn status: Youssef Afzali is now Account Executive at Unidesk.

  2. The VAR Guy Says:

Mark: To the best of The VAR Guy’s knowledge, the timing of the two departures (Youssef Afzali and Eric Webster) were coincidental… But thanks for taking the time to post a comment. The VAR Guy appreciates the note.

Follow-up question: Has Intronis assigned a new sales person to handle your account?

  3. Greg Says:

It is interesting, I seem to notice a high degree of turnover at Intronis. I have kept in contact with my previous rep and found that things are not as rosy as is put on

  4. The VAR Guy Says:

Greg: The VAR Guy is aware of the two departures noted above. Plus, some new inbound hires. If you have additional insights The VAR Guy is all ears (thevarguy [at] NineLivesMediaInc.com).

  5. Greg Says:

The VAR Guy: Anytime there are departures there needs to be replacement hires to fill the holes left behind. The big question is, “why the departures”, especially with a company in a growing market that is, according to the company, continuously growing.

  6. Nada Says:

So is this a favor you’re doing for Intronis sponsoring The VAR Guy Live 2010 Webcast Series? Or were you paid additionally to write gloriously about them?

  7. The VAR Guy Says:

Nada@6: Um, where’s the favor? Did you notice that The VAR Guy was the only media blogger who took the time to point out that the Intronis Channel Chief had resigned?

Still, The VAR Guy welcomes constructive criticism such as yours. And our resident blogger’s sponsor list is openly displayed (here, here and here) so that readers can draw their own conclusions about the (A) accuracy of The VAR Guy’s coverage and (B) potential influences and potential conflicts of interest. Do any other media companies list their financial relationships so clearly?

So, um, what should The VAR Guy have written? Two employees leave Intronis amid record growth so it’s time for partners to panic?

Greg@5: On the one hand, employee turnover is nothing new in the high-tech industry. The industry is filled with folks who want to try something new. But on the other hand, you raise a valid point: What is the replacement strategy for those who have departed? And how soon will positions be filled? The VAR Guy will continue to check on those questions, searching for answers.
