The VAR Guy’s week unraveled because … yada, yada, yada … so our resident blogger didn’t quite have the time to write everything he wanted. In fact, here are six channel partner blog entries The VAR Guy had hoped to generate for the week ending May 21, 2010.

7. Bigger Pipes: Cisco Systems is buying privately held CoreOptics Inc. The move may help Cisco to equip service provider customers with 100 Gigabits per second (Gbps) networking technology for video and mobile apps.

6. Ingram Micro Movers and Shakers: Paul Bay is returning to Ingram Micro as executive VP, Ingram Micro North America, assuming responsibility for partner-facing activities and Canada. Brian Wiser, Ken Bast, Scott Zahl and Mark Snider will report to Paul, who will report to Keith Bradley, Ingram Micro’s President of North America.  Paul rejoins Ingram Micro after more than four years as the chief executive officer of Punch Software.

Meanwhile, Kirk Robinson has been promoted to VP, value-added reseller (VAR) and GovEd sales, market development and business intelligence. And Peter DiMarco, a 25-year veteran of Ingram Micro, recently left to pursue other career opportunities.

Hmmm… That entire Ingram entry above almost looks like a PR pro wrote it…

5. More Channel Moves Coming?: Jaspersoft, the open source business intelligence specialist, has hired Jim Bell as chief marketing officer and Business Objects veteran Karl Van den Bergh as VP of product strategy. Watch for Jaspersoft to land in The VAR Guy’s second annual Open Source 50 report, which debuts May 24 and tracks the most promising open source partner programs.

4. Calling for Feedback: Digium, promoter of the Asterisk Open Source IP PBX, is surveying partners and customers about their views on Asterisk. The VAR Guy expects Digium to position the survey results against traditional closed source unified communication systems. Stay tuned.

3. Still Up for Sale: Here’s an update about the pending sale of LANDesk, the systems management specialist. The story doesn’t mention potential buyers, but LANDesk revenue has grown 20 percent per year for eight years. So, um, where are the potential buyers?

2. All in the Family: It doesn’t take a Meathead or a Dingbat to realize there’s more to life than the IT channel. To get your life-work back in balance, give this a read. Months from now The VAR Guy will take the time to explain the timing of this entry.

1. Check the Headline: The VAR Guy still doesn’t play by the rules. But so far, that strategy seems to be treating him well. This is a top-six list, so there is no number one.
