Dabble DB, the point-and-click browser-based database application platform, is officially on hold as they announce their parent company’s acquisition by Twitter. Here’s the scoop – and why you shouldn’t panic if you’re a customer.
In a post on the front page of their site, Dabble DB announces the acquisition – since both its developer Smallthought Systems and Twitter are private, financial details of the deal weren’t disclosed – and reassures existing customers that even though they’re not opening any new accounts or developing any more updates, they’ll still offer technical support.
All the same, Dabble DB acknowledges that “major changes” might be in the works, and that if there’s any movement on that front they’ll notify users sixty days in advance.
“We will do whatever we need to do to make sure that, at any time, you can export all of your data, including attachments, in a structured format suitable for import into other systems,” says the Dabble DB page.
Zoho, which offers the competing Zoho Creator platform, wrote their own blog entry welcoming Dabble DB users to give them a spin, and that they’d be reaching out to see if there was any way to streamline data transfer from one to the other.
Twitter’s blog indicates that the Smallthought Systems acquisition was driven by the desire to move their Trendly Google Analytics data analysis product in-house – but here’s hoping that they won’t leave Dabble DB and the developers leveraging it hanging.

I believe that giving Dabble DB customers a way to a new home for their applications would help to reduce their stress and frustration.
To help making the transition to a new platform as seamless and easy as possible, TeamDesk came up with an automated Dabble DB application data importing wizard:
http://www.teamdesk.net/dabbledb.html
We would also offer free unlimited support to help Dabble DB customers find a new home for their applications and we commit to keep the service for good.
TrackVia is also an amazing option – worthy of serious consideration. Just as Dabble DB positioned itself as “software for people, not programmers”, TrackVia positions itself as a Cloud Database and Application Platform designed for Business People. There is also a free 14 day trial available on the website (www.trackvia.com) that comes with full support from the in-house TrackVia team.
