By now it’s crystal clear that Polycom has moved way beyond the teleconferencing space and full-fledged into unified communications. Witness the myriad partnerships it has forged with leading IT and communications vendors to further its Open Collaboration Network, and the advances in UC that have come about as a result.

Polycom’s most recent partnership with BT aims to push UC even farther into the mainstream. The two companies have teamed to enhance their combined suite of end-to-end, enterprise-class services and solutions based on current and future releases of Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) technologies.

The agreement, announced at the recent Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference 2010 (WPC10), calls for a family of BT/Polycom solutions based on BT’s UC Ready IT, voice and professional services for implementations of Microsoft UC technologies.

With its networking platform and SIP-based architecture, BT is providing the backbone for the solution, while Polycom will bring to the table its suite of telepresence and videoconferencing products including its new CX IP phones, which the company is demonstrating at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference and which integrate natively with Microsoft Communicator 14, the latest version of Communicator.

The idea is to bring another ready-to-roll enterprise UC solution to the table for partners and end user customers. The offering is flexible enough to work on premise, as a managed solution or in the cloud, giving solution providers an attractive package to sell to their customers. For Polycom solution providers, this latest partnership is but another arrow in their quiver of robust UC solutions offered by the vendor.
