It looks like Tim Curran was more than right. Tech Data is jumping on the ever increasing momentum of consumer electronics, pro-sumer trends and audio-video products. 3D TV’s and consumer laptops like the Lenovo IdeaPad are now under Tech Data’s wing. Here’s the scoop…

Tech Data’s distribution prowess now has expanded for consumer electronic retailers. Specifically, Tech Data is also looking to leverage the relationships with hardware and software vendors to bring in consumer-class products to a lot of the e-tailers and brick-and-mortar stores they serve.

Diversification is Tech Data’s strategy, and Tech Data says that they’ve added 1,300 consumer electronics retailers to their customer base in the last year. 3D TV’s fill an apparently pent up demand, and Lenovo IdeaPads fill the gap for a “consumer-class” PC.

Tech Data cites a DisplaySearch report that forecasts 3.4 million 3D TVs will ship in 2010, and a potential for 42.9 million in 2014. Meanwhile, an IDC market report saying that portable PC growth will be at nearly 20% for 2010.
