It’s just about time for The VAR Guy to stop blogging and start reconnecting with his family for the weekend. But before our resident blogger pretends to stop checking his Twitter alerts, here six channel partner blog entries The VAR Guy didn’t write for the week ending September 10, 2010.
7. Coming Soon: A public beta test of Windows Small Business Server 7 is now expected to debut by the end of September 2010. Still, most channel eyes are on Windows Small Business Server Aurora, which blends on-premises software with cloud-driven services. The first SBS Aurora public beta arrived in August 2010.
6. Help Wanted: Global Channel Chief: Juniper‘s quest for a global channel chief continues. Frank Vitagliano announced plans in May 2010 to step away from his global role and focus on the Americas. But Juniper has yet to name Vitagliano’s global replacement, though it’s safe to assume Mark Hurd is not on the shortlist of candidates…
5. Smarter Small Businesses?: SAS Institute, the business intelligence software company, plans to host an SMB gathering in New York the week of September 13. Conventional wisdom says SAS Institute focuses on enterprise BI solutions. But check out these stats:
- More than 80 percent of new SAS commercial accounts in 2009 involved SMB customers, SAS has indicated.
- In the U.S., more than 300 new customers in 2009 represented midsized businesses, SAS has stated.
4. Happy Anniversary: Roughly six months ago, the Google Apps Marketplace launched. Now, more than 200 installable apps are available in the marketplace, and there are more than 4 million Google Apps users with Marketplace apps installed on their domain, Google says. Where do channel partners fit in? Here are some clues from The VAR Guy.
3. Slowing Growth?: Yes, the PC industry is growing. But the rate of growth is starting to distract Wall Street a bit a bit more, triggering new concerns about Dell,
2. See You In San Diego?: Roughly 100 channel partners are expected to attend the Tech Data-Cisco Ignite Conference (Sept. 28-30, San Diego). After sneaking his way into a San Diego Padres game, The VAR Guy plans to sneak into Ignite. The reason: The VAR Guy expects to hear more clues about Cisco’s emerging commercial strategy. Plus, Tech Data CEO Bob Dutkowsky may be on hand to discuss how Cisco and Tech Data are going to market together…
1. Check the Headline: This is a top six list. The VAR Guy is out of time and out of ideas. So, there is no number one.
