The VAR Guy is a bit distracted today. Always quick with a joke or a light of your smoke… but there’s some place that he’d rather be. Still, our resident blogger enjoys his weekly sign-off. So here are six channel partner blog entries The VAR Guy didn’t find time to write for the week ending September 17, 2010.

7. Feeling Bullish: Oracle’s latest quarterly results were impressive, and Co-President Safra Catz says the company’s pipelines in both software and hardware “are very strong.” The upbeat financial statements arrive shortly before Oracle kicks off the massive OracleWorld conference (San Francisco, Sept. 19-23).

6. Live From Cisco: The networking giant’s social media experiments continue. Cisco Partner Update is a new video show that recaps channel news in five minutes or less. Hmmm… Is that The VAR Guy hiding behind the green screen?

5. Not Invented Here?: IBM has openly criticized HP’s lack of R&D innovation. Now, Novell is weighing in on the matter, noting that former HP CEO Mark Hurd “was able to achieve some short-term goals by cutting R&D budget at HP.” But now, Novell says, HP “has to make up the loss by essentially buying innovation and they are paying top dollar” for companies like 3Par.

4. Sneak Peaks: Plenty of virtualization and small business channel news coming the week of Sept. 20, The VAR Guy hears. Our resident blogger is digging for the scoop now.

3. Data Centers Meet the Channel: CoreLink Data Centers has launched a channel partner program that includes two tiers: the CoreLink Strategic Agent Partner Program, which allows VARs to resell CoreLink’s co-location and data center services. Moreover, the CoreLink Referral Partner Program offers referral commissions to partners that refer business to CoreLink. The CoreLink effort reminds The VAR Guy of recent moves at The Planet.

2. Enrique Requests Your Company: Symantec has started to invite channel press and media to Symantec Partner Engage, scheduled for the first week of November in Las Vegas. CEO Enrique Salem and the Symantec channel team will be on hand. The VAR Guy expects plenty of on-premises updates, but it’s also safe to expect updates on the Symantec Hosted Services, our resident blogger hears.

Still, it will be a busy week for conferences. More than 1,000 IT service providers are already confirmed to attend the ConnectWise IT Nation conference Nov. 4-6 in Orlando. HTG Peer Groups, CharTec and Labtech Software are holding conferences in coordination with ConnectWise.

1. Check the Headline: This is a top-six list, so there is no number one. The VAR Guy doesn’t play by the rules. Never has. Never will.

When is The VAR Guy going to come out from behind the green screen and make an appearance on Partner Update? We would, of course, make sure to disguise your identity.

  2. Melissa H. Says:

Hey, I spotted you, TVG, in SF in a Best Buy with a lot of tv screens behind you…

Ha! Think you can hide! Not! Sucka.

  3. The VAR Guy Says:

Alex: The VAR Guy barely gets his day job done but he appreciates the invite.

Melissa: The VAR Guy is extra difficult to spot this week. But he is keeping one eye on Oracle OpenWorld in SF. Oh,and yes our resident blogger is a Neo fan. The VAR Guy always chooses the red pill.
