VMware is bolstering its cloud strategy by introducing a new set of products designed to drive IT as a Service. The announcement comes from Denmark as VMware kicks off VMworld 2010 Europe. Keep reading for the details, including a service provider partner program effort.

The big chunk of the announcement comes with VMware’s new vCloud Request Manager, which is now providing “enhanced” governance and control for those running hybrid clouds. There’s also updates to the VMware vCenter CapacityIQ to provide storage analytics and management to virtual and cloud environments. Plus, the VMware Service Provide Program has been “enhanced,” with the addition of VMware vCloud Datacenter Services.

More specifically, under VMware’s Request Manager falls the VMware vCloud Director, which will allow IT departments to create “virtual data centers” by pooling together capabilities built into VMware vSphere. The vCenter CapacityIQ version 1.5 now provides the ability to pinpoint storage bottlenecks along with reports that show trending storage patterns in highly dynamic cloud and virtual environments.

Lastly, VMware has expanded the VMware Service Provider Program (VSPP), which has doubled the products available to participants. There are new pay-for-use bundles and licensing. VMware is hoping the new participants (like Zimbra) will help give providers with new platform as a service offerings.
