Storage protection vendor FalconStor Software is providing a new level of automation for data recovery. Its latest tool, RecoverTrac, will become a standard feature of FalconStor’s Continuous Data Protector (CDP). Read on for the tech specs …

Integration of FalconStor’s RecoverTrac into the CDP is part of FalconStor’s vision of providing a service-oriented data protection solution. RecoverTrac is FalconStor’s first tool to provide DR Automation and the first to do that with both virtual and physical server infrastructures. With RecoverTrac doing the heavy lifting of automating once-complex operations, FalconStor hopes RecoverTrac will be one of the most comprehensive disk-based protection systems on the market.

What makes RecoverTrac unique is that it doesn’t just backup and replicate data, it actually takes chunks of data center services and backs them up so packages of services can be replicated and restored at a time. FalconStor calls this method “service-oriented data protection,” and sees it as a more orderly way of bringing systems back online. RecoverTrac also includes a test mode, which provides a test of the recovery backed-up without impacting work-flow, and cloning capabilities, which allow swapping application data for other business purposes. It’s all designed with failback in mind, for near-instant recovery in the event of a disaster.

RecoverTrac is available now as a standard part of the FalconStor CDP and Network Storage Sever at no extra cost.
