120px Apple logoThe VAR Guy can’t believe this one, but it’s apparently true. Apple is poised to build a brand new retail store — its biggest ever — in New York City’s Grand Central Terminal. Here’s the deal …

A tip of the hat goes to CultOfMac.com, which broke and independently confirmed the rumor is true. Apple will, at some point, build its biggest store yet in one of the busiest and most historic hubs in NYC. But as you’d imagine, it’s a delicate issue. Grand Central Terminal is packed with history and careful construction will be required.

It’s not anything The VAR Guy hasn’t seen from Apple before. Apple has always helped make an Apple Store look unique while fitting into the surrounding areas architecture, be it historic or modern.

The VAR Guy is a bit worried, however. Traffic at Grand Central Terminal is always high, and Apple Store traffic tends to be the same way, too. Will the new Apple Store cause an increasing amount of congestion in an already-congested 42nd Street?

The VAR Guy doesn’t question Apple’s strategy to expand, but he does wonder: Why Grand Central, of all places? A few more than 10 blocks north lies the Mecca-sized glass cube of the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue, a prime section of Manhattan real estate. Apple decided to make that store completely subterranean, so its biggest store yet would need an equally large location.

Still, The VAR Guy thinks that if Apple can pull it off in the Louvre, there’s no reason why Apple can’t pull it off at Grand Central.
