The VAR Guy spent some time this week at an Arrow ECS (Enterprise Computing Solutions) open house in Atlanta. Free food, free advice and plenty of cloud talk. But now our resident blogger is home… catching up on email — and delivering to you the following six channel partner blog entries that he didn’t have time to write for the week ending April 22, 2011.

7. Taking Shots?: Red Hat has been surveying partners for their reaction to the pending Attachmate-Novell business combo. The VAR Guy will share some findings — and perspectives — next week…

6. Crying Foul: HP continues to complain about Oracle’s decision to drop Itanium software development. Is this just sour grapes? Actually, The VAR Guy has some updated perspectives to share… Stay tuned.

5. Feeling Secure: SonicWALL, Inc. has introduced Priority Technical Support for Gold and Silver Medallion partners. That’s all The VAR Guy has to say about that.

4. Famous Parents?: The VAR Guy interviewed Arrow Fusion VP Lee Fawcett this week. During the chatter, our resident blogger kept wondering if Arrow’s Fawcett was somehow the secret offspring of Lee Majors and Farrah Fawcett. Hmmm…

3. Fighting for Elbow Room: A former MSP recently referred to the cloud storage market as “crowd storage.” The reason: The cloud storage market is just too darn crowded with competing online backup, file sharing and storage companies.

2. Big Numbers: Sure, Microsoft is under attack on multiple fronts. But don’t weep too long for the software giant. Indeed, Microsoft says it has sold 350 million Windows 7 licenses in the past 18 months.

1. Check the Headline: This is a Top Six list. Always has been. Always will be. The VAR Guy never plays by the rules… unless he writes them.
