The Google I/O 2011 conference (May 10-11, San Francisco) is designed mainly for software developers. But The VAR Guy has a hunch Google will discuss some key channel moves that could have implications for VARs and MSPs. In fact, Google’s Jeff Ragusa (pictured) will specifically address channel partners during the conference. Here are five potential channel trends and developments worth watching at Google I/O.

They include…

1. The Google Apps Marketplace: How are channel partners plugging in? Google will surely provide an update. Just over one year ago, Google notes, the Google Apps Marketplace launched with 50 cloud apps integrated with Google Apps. Today, there are over 300 apps and growing, Google adds. The next Google Apps Marketplace moves will surely surface at Google I/O.

2. Enterprise Apps Meet the Google App Engine: Google claims the App Engine has evolved from a grassroots developer effort to an enterprise-ready technology. But can channel partners really leverage Google App Engine when selling into corporate IT? The VAR Guy will search for answers.

3. Developing Business Apps With Google Apps: Here’s where Jeff Ragusa, a Google channel team member, enters the picture. Ragusa is set to discuss how Google Apps resellers have tied multiple business systems together with Google Apps for increased organizational productivity. Ragusa’s session will explore how one integrator leveraged Google Sites, App Engine, Gadgets and Google Web Toolkit, and Google Apps Script to build an integrated customer solution.

4. Taking Google Android to Work: Google is expected to discuss general enterprise adoption considerations and related Android features. For VARs and MSPs that remotely manage Android devices, Google will cover security issues, app development, corporate app directories, and  device management policies.

5. Google Chrome OS: Hmmm… This is the big wild card. Just how much will Google say about its Chrome OS strategy? And will Google share more details about hardware designed to run Chrome OS?

The VAR Guy will be listening… but most of our Google I/O coverage will surface on The VAR Guy’s sister site, TalkinCloud.
