The VAR Guy is packing his bags this evening for a trip to San Francisco. But before he embarks on this latest road trip here are six channel partner blogs The VAR Guy didn’t write for the week ending May 6, 2011.

7. Mobile Moves: The VAR Guy is watching the Google I/O conference closely (May 10-11, San Francisco). There’s a high probability hardware makers will preview Chrome OS netbooks at the show. Among the companies to watch: Samsung.

6. Channel Chief In the Cloud: NetSuite Channel Chief Craig West will be on hand for the SuiteCloud conference this week in San Francisco. The VAR Guy is wondering how many new channel partners will be on hand to hear about ERP in the cloud…

5. M&A Activity: Sophos, the fourth largest anti-virus company, has acquired Astaro, the fourth largest unified threat management company. The move is particularly interesting because Sophos was acquired by a private equity firm in early 2010. Looks like that private equity firm is focused on growth… Sophos and Astaro, meanwhile, both have channel-centric sales strategies.

4. Financial Update: Cisco is expected to announce its latest quarterly results after the markets close on Wednesday, May 11. Lots of folks will be watching because Cisco recently announced a voluntary early retirement program. Also, CEO John Chambers recently conceded that Cisco has made some business missteps and the company shut down its Flip video camera business.

3. Slightly Distracted: The VAR Guy has an eye on this week’s Interop conference in Las Vegas. But he’s keeping a separate eye on a Hewlett-Packard gathering over at the Wynn Casino.

2. Sold Off?: A source suggests that CA Technologies has sold off some or all of its security business, including some anti-virus and anti-malware offerings. Call is a rumor for now. But The VAR Guy is checking out the chatter.

1. Check the Headline: This is a Top Six list. Always has been. Always will be.

That’s all for now. Time for The VAR Guy to pack his bags for the trip to San Francisco.
