Cloud-based protection company Panda Security has launched Panda Virtual GateDefender Performa, a cloud-based virtualized perimeter protection solution. Although the title is a mouthful, the product is easy to swallow, giving Panda’s partners a new way to approach customers in the virtualization space. Read on …
Virtual GateDefender Performa provides cloud-based protection for VMware virtualized environments and integrates into the infrastructure to provide a hybrid cloud approach to protection. This enables the protection to operate on a low-resource overhead, and Panda boasts it’s a more cost-friendly approach than other virtualized protection solutions.
GateDefender reaches out to a hybrid cloud that combines a private cloud hosted on a private network that provides service to Panda GateDefender Performa and a public cloud that provides service to a global network and the “Collective Intelligence” private cloud to provide real-time data protection and automatic detection. Panda said such approach can detect 99.4 percent of the new malware created daily.
Panda’s hybrid cloud approach is designed to be a new way to institute “perimeter security,” since the dual-cloud source approach allows for complete data control and monitoring. Users can generate log files and registries, as well as security reports not only to monitor the network but also to meet compliance requirements. GateDefender is accessible via web console, allowing IT admins to check on network security in real time nearly anywhere. GateDefender is available via a free trial, and more granular details about the technology is available on the company’s press release.
Worth noting: Cloud-based security is becoming increasingly popular, as is virtualization security, as more and more cloud-based services mature. Offloading resources to the cloud seems to be an efficient way of mitigating the risk of overhead resource consumption on VMs, which in turn can save customers money on the bare-metal systems they buy to virtualize on.
