In an effort to advance its standing in the UC playing field and further bolster its solutions footprint, Polycom has appointed new leaders to its sales and marketing teams. The company recently announced stellar Q1 numbers, so why the appointments and why now? It’s part of Polycom’s plan to turbocharge its growth and better deliver its Polycom UC Everywhere vision. Read on for the details:

Hansjoerg Wagner, Polycom’s current president of Asia Pacific, is being promoted to senior vice president of Global Field Operations in addition to keeping his current position. Under his tutelage, Polycom’s revenue in the APAC has grown 24 percent — the highest profit margins of any region in which Polycom operates, according to the company. In his new role, Wagner will be in charge of global service sales, global sales processes and Polycom’s global cloud initiative.

Meanwhile, Kate Hutchison is planning to join the Polycom ranks as the chief marketing officer and executive vice president come June 2011. Hutchinson most recently was CMO and vice president at VMware, but left the company in 2009 when Tod Nielsen took over as COO. She also has had stints at Citrix and BEA. Hutchison will report to Polycom’s president and CEO Andy Miller, and will head up all of the company’s marketing efforts to advance Polycom’s brand in the marketplace, according to the company.

Polycom’s executive shifts come after a successful Q1 with significant global revenue growth, and an ongoing onslaught of device compatibility with UC Everywhere ubiquity. Most recently, Polycom has branched out to support the Motorola Xoom, along with other Android devices. Polycom said it is poised for optimal growth, with a $2 billion+ revenue mark as its goal. With UC is gaining momentum, it’s likely Polycom will achieve its goal easily. We’ll keep tabs on them in the mean time.
