As CEO John Chambers seeks to streamline and re-focus Cisco Systems around its core markets, some pundits speculate that Cisco will sell of its WebEx business. But Cisco insiders say such speculation is nonsense. Indeed, Cisco Senior Director of Business Development Richard McLeod moments ago told The VAR Guy — point blank — that the WebEx business is not for sale.

Instead, Cisco continues to integrate WebEx deeper and deeper into the company’s collaboration and TelePresence strategies. McLeod conceded that some WebEx services may take on new names and brands over time. But the company’s commitment to owning and building the WebEx platform remains firmly in place, he added.

Can We Talk Video?

The VAR Guy connected with McLeod today during Ingram Micro Cloud Summit in Phoenix, where Cisco and Ingram announced a new cloud partnership for VARs and MSPs. Also, Cisco VP Guido Jouret was on hand to describe Cisco’s video strategy for channel partners. Jouret conceded that scaling video remains challenging.

To address the challenge, Cisco promotes a so-called Medianet Architecture Guarantee across consumers, business and service provides. The idea is to deliver

  • quality of experience — the best quality on any device
  • any to any seamless experiences
  • simplicity and ease of use
  • plug and play speed and reliability
  • video at scale.

Jouret believes VARs  and MSPs have seven video application opportunities:

  • Training and education
  • Meetings and seminars
  • Safety and security
  • Corporate events
  • Organizational communications
  • Advertising
  • Customer/patient interaction

That’s all for now. The VAR Guy’s live coverage of Ingram Micro Cloud Summit continues throughout the day.
