Intel is now offering on-site repair for SMBs. But Intel isn’t directly doing the on-site repair, it’s actually giving that job to the channel. Super-quick details follow …

It’s an interesting move by Intel, providing on-site repair for Intel-based white-box servers in the SMB market, and it’s being offered through Intel’s community of resellers and distributors. Intel sees this as a way to help SMB customers who don’t — or can’t — have on-staff IT. A three-year contract will offer round-the-clock telephone support and next-day on-site repairs (or replacements). Although Intel operates worldwide, initially this offering will be available only in the United States.

If you’re a VAR, you may be wondering: Hey, what happens if I can’t fix a problem? It’s okay, Intel is “fully backing” the program. What’s more, customer and resellers alike will have access to a web portal for easy driver access and quick spare-part purchasing. Obviously, Intel isn’t covering every system with an Intel chip in it, but there’s a huge selection of servers and products that will get this preferential treatment.

Check out the official brief from Intel here, or the list of supported servers. Intel On-Site Repair for Servers is out now.
