The VAR Guy is in the nation’s capital this week, blogging from the Sage Summit 2011, where partners, customers and Sage employees are all converging at one massive trade show and convention. What is The VAR Guy really seeing here on the ground, and what are the key trends partners should look out for?
Here are the top three trends The VAR Guy will be following at the event:
- The “Sage Brand”: Sage North American CEO Pascal Houillon will give his opening keynote at Sage Summit 2011, and The VAR Guy will be front and center for the details. Houillon plans on defining the “Sage brand,” since Sage offers a large swath of solutions including CRM, ERP and FAS, to name a few. One looming question expected to be answered is how Sage’s solutions play into the cloud. Houillon also plans to address Sage’s partner community directly, defining exactly what Sage’s brand means for partners. The VAR Guy will have his blogging fingers at the ready, and will be sure to note how Sage takes aim at its rivals such as NetApp and SalesForce.
- Verticals: A cursory glance around the trade show hall today almost knocked The VAR Guy’s fedora right off his head. A number of verticals are represented, and The VAR Guy will be keep tabs on what verticals are the most popular and how partners deal with demand from those verticals, in addition to what key solution practices are making partners successful.
- Mobility: Tablets are everywhere at the Sage Summit, and The VAR Guy counted 17 partners with booths that display mobile solutions that are either native for the iPad or cross-platform web apps that run on iPad and Android. Our resident blogger plans to check out which solutions are most popular for mobile devices and offer up some perspective on how consumer devices are shaping the business landscape, especially amid devices like the Cisco Cius.
As always, The VAR Guy is open to suggestions. If there’s anything you’d like our resident blogger to dig deep on, let him know.

Don't miss Charlene O'Hanlon's weekly columns...
Hi VAR Guy,
Interested in what Sage said to their dealers. It really seems that they have a very large group of products. I had dealt with them when they acquired SBT, many years ago. And I personally had to used Timeslips. But the updates were never really updates and I got tired of paying for nothing. I still take care of clients with Timeslips, but I still have not seen a lot of upgrade to the product.
Just curious about what they are doing and how they see things. They seem to continue to grow.
Thank you for your hard work,
Victor,
The VAR Guy thanks you for stopping by. Our resident blogger will be sure to ask SAGE about Timeslips in the days ahead. Also, please keep The VAR Guy posted as you continue to achieve new business milestones.
