When The VAR Guy last checked in with Merchant Warehouse in October 2010, the company was refocusing its channel partner program. Fast forward nine months and The VAR Guy notices something interesting: It looks like Bob Cellucci has succeeded Jay Chaudhry as VP of business development for partner channel. Here’s the details…

Merchant Warehouse has received somewhat of a face lift over the last nine months, including a revamp of their website and logo. Part of that revamp seems to involve partner program enhancements as well. Among the recent moves: Bob Cellucci has been selected as the new VP of business development due to his 20 year veteran status with channel sales along with his industry strategy expertise. Cellucci has also held high level management roles in other companies such as PaperThin.

Cellucci’s long channel experience will have him also working on inter-business partnerships to create a stronger presence for Merchant Warehouse in the POS space.

The VAR Guy reached out to Merchant Warehouse to see if Cellucci essentially succeeds Jay Chaudhry — and to determine if Chaudhry is still with the company. Apparently, Chaudhry left Merchant Warehouse earlier this year to pursue new opportunities.

If any space is currently under appreciated during the influx of consumerization of IT, The VAR Guy thinks the POS space is. Remember, Google Wallet is just around the corner, and Google has partnered with First Data solutions for NFC payments. As Merchant Warehouse gears up for the future of the POS space, the company offers similar solutions, including support for mobile POS applications and payment software, but currently no relationship with Google has been announced.

Our resident blogger will keeps tabs on Merchant Warehouse and see were Cellucci takes Merchant Warehouse’s partnerships. Who knows? Merchant Warehouse products could end up at your local Starbucks kiosk…
