The VAR Guy is looking ahead to the week of August 15 and thinking about joining a gym. Our resident blogger has some weighty issues to address. But before The VAR Guy burns some calories, let’s burn through six blogs our resident blogger didn’t have time to write for the week ending August 12, 2011.
7. Going to Pieces?: Wall Street is starting to wonder if Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC) will seek to break itself up. The company blamed its latest round of weak quarterly results in the managed services sector. Strange, but the MSP sector is particularly strong right now, according to anecdotal tidbits from The VAR Guy’s sister site, MSPmentor.
6. Empowering Partners: McAfee sounds like it’s set to announce some new deal registration enhancements for partners. The story leaked out onto the web in recent days. But expect some deeper official details from The VAR Guy by Aug. 15 or so…
5. Cloud Migration Dollars?: Microsoft in September will start helping customers migrate from BPOS (Business Productivity Online Suite) to the Office 365 Cloud. The VAR Guy wonders: Will channel partners assist in the migrations? And if so, what are the consulting opportunities? Microsoft has promised The VAR Guy some answers soon.
4. Partners Invited: Tech Data is set to host its Channel Link event Sept. 14-16 in Los Angeles. The VAR Guy wonders: Will Tech Data offer an update on the StreamOne Solutions Store — a forthcoming SaaS marketplace for VARs and MSPs?
3. Value Incentive Program: Cisco Systems’ fiscal 2012 started on August 1. CEO John Chambers sounded a bit more confident about Cisco’s business prospects during an August 10 earnings announcement. But what types of channel partner efforts can VARs expect? In particular, The VAR Guy is watching the VIP (Value Incentive Program) in the days and weeks ahead.
2. Concerns Addressed?: At the VMworld Conference (Aug. 29-Sept. 1, Las Vegas), The VAR Guy will be listening closely to partners and customers — striving to determine if VMware has fully addressed recent customer pricing concerns.
1. Check the Headline: Loyal readers already know the story. This is a top six list. Always has been. Always will be. So there is no number none. Not now. Not ever.
The VAR Guy thanks you for reading.
