The VAR Guy spent a lot of time listening to HP Chairman Ray Lane this week. Our resident blogger is a bit tired from trying to track all the changes in the old HP garage.  All the HP chatter caused The VAR Guy to overlook some other high tech news from this week. In fact, here are six blogs The VAR Guy didn’t have time to write for the week ending Sept. 23, 2011.

7. Another Safe Landing: Former Symantec CEO Gordon Eubanks has surfaced on Solera Networks‘ board of directors. Solera develops a network security analytics platform.Yes, the company has a partner program.

6. Dell Gets Its Social Media Groove Back: Dell had a pretty hot social media strategy in 2008. It quieted down a bit in 2009 or so. But more recently Dell seems to be generating social media content that catches The VAR Guy’s eye each week. The latest example: This Week @Dell. Sure, it’s a blog filled with Dell propaganda. But isn’t that the point of effective marketing and communications?

5. Leaving Microsoft’s Cloud: Within Microsoft’s cloud group, Corporate VP Rajat Taneja is the latest executive to resign. He’s joining Electronic Arts as CTO. The VAR Guy likes Microsoft’s overall cloud strategy for Office 365 and Windows Azure (despite some partner concerns about cloud billing issues). But the biggest cloud challenge for Microsoft seems to be staff retention. Mary Jo Foley offers a list of recent resignations

4. MSP Goes Cloud: Managed hosting provider CyberlinkASP is the latest company to join the Rackspace Partner Program. Speaking of Rackspace, it sounds like the company will have a major presence at Interop (New York, Oct. 3-7). The VAR Guy plans to crash the party to chase down some more IT gossip…

3. Talent Search: Cisco Systems and CareerBuilder have been hosting Cisco Talent Fairs across the Southern region of the United States. The fairs are designed to help Cisco partners recruit and hire new talent…

2. Hello From Apple: The VAR Guy received an email from Apple, pitching the company’s Joint Venture services for small businesses. Our resident blogger will share more insights next week… In the meantime, a side note: The VAR Guy misses Steve Jobs and continues to wish him well.

1. Exit, Stage Left: This remains a weekly Top 6 list, so there’s never a number one.

Goodbye for now… but don’t disappear for long. You never know if The VAR Guy is going to update his web site with a few surprises later today.
