Here’s the rundown:

• Avnet’s Embedded division has inked a deal with AOpen to carry AOpen’s line of digital media players uniquely designed for the digital signage market. Avnet and AOpen have positioned the device as a rugged unit designed for all-day use — one that can even be installed in airplanes, outdoors and medical facilities. It supports full HD out and includes software that makes it easy to set up and start signing. Digital signage is an often overlooked and underrated area of the channel, but new technology including Intel’s Atom and AMD APU units is pushing the specialization into the spotlight. Interestingly, the AOpen device runs on Intel’s latest Core-series processors.
• Ingram Micro is pushing deeper into physical security through a partnership with Exacq to offer its Open Architecture Video Management System. Exacq’s IP security solutions include multi-camera distributed systems that protect the data center or a corporate environment. Exacq said its technology allows for super-easy management from any any location, as long as it’s on the company network. Exacq also offers a free client to view the IP security cameras and a free mobile app that performs the same function, running on iOS and Android. (Worth noting is D-Link’s similar security offering.)
• Lastly, Tech Data nailed the No. 92 spot on the InformationWeek 500, an annual list ranking the top 500 technology channel innovators. Tech Data’s StreamOne software platform was the driving factor for the honors and privileges of making the list, due in part to the ease of use and streamlining the entire hardware and software licensing process.
